Ponyscape v0.2 has been released!!  Check it out here: flutterguy317.deviantart.com/j…

I will keep this journal and the files up for anyone who wants to use the previous version.

Hi Everypony!!

It is with great joy that I present you with my custom version of Inkscape that I have so lovingly dubbed "Ponyscape".  For the past month or two, I've been working on improving Inkscape whenever I could find some free time (which wasn't easy :p).  I've been using my custom Inkscape version in my most recent vectors, and am proud to announce that I feel it is ready to be released to the masses!  For anyone running Windows, you can download the entire package, unzip it using 7zip or winrar, and run inkscape.exe.  If you want to compile from source or are not on Windows, download the Inkscape source from their website (www.inkscape.org) and apply the source patch (if you need help with this, feel free to send me a note).

Please note that this software is still somewhat experimental...  I encourage you to use it, but please remember to save often (enabling autosave is also a good idea).  If you come across any issues, want to give feedback, or have an idea for a future version of Ponyscape, feel free to email me at flutterguy317@gmail.com .

Here's some interesting things that are new in this version (green is from upstream Inkscape, blue is custom):

:bulletgreen: Powerstrokes, which allow you to vary the width of a stroke and taper it at the ends.  Apply powerstroke to a selected path by clicking Path->Path Effects, then clicking the + button, selecting Powerstroke, and pressing OK.  Press F2 to enter node-edit mode and there will be 3 width nodes.  You can move these around to vary the width of your stroke, hold Control and click on a node to duplicate it, or hold Alt and Control and click on a node to delete it.  You can select Zero-Width in the Path Effects dialog for either end of the stroke to have it taper (to get a clean taper, you might need to add an additional width node to adjust how quickly it tapers).

:bulletgreen: Path cloning with LPE, which clones the selected path while retaining the ability to manipulate color, layer, etc.  To create a clone, click on Edit->Clone->Clone original path (LPE).  When you add, move, or remove a node to the parent path, the cloned path will be updated.

:bulletgreen: Extrapolated join, which is a method for creating sharp corners on a stroke that look better than mitered corners.  To use extrapolated joins, apply a Powerstroke and select Extrapolated or Extrapolated Arc from the Join drop-down in the Path Effects dialog.

:bulletblue: Better powerstroke defaults and easier application: fill and stroke colors are swapped and the width is retained when applying a powerstroke, and better settings for a powerstroke are applied by default.

:bulletblue: Width adjustment dialog: this allows you to specify the width of your stroke numerically and precisely.  To use this dialog, hold Alt and click on a width-node.

:bulletblue: Experimental effects are enabled to allow the Extrapolated Arc powerstroke join.  Please note that not all path-effects work, and some do crash Inkscape.

:bulletblue: Old style slider controls for dialogs: in a recent build, the upstream Inkscape switched to a new style of slider control which is not the nicest to work with.  After talking with Atmospark about it, I decided to revert to the old control.

:bulletblue: Fixed resolution of PNG import: a bug in the upstream Inkscape sets the resolution of an imported PNG file incorrectly, however this is fixed in Ponyscape 0.1

I have assembled a little gallery of new features here: sta.sh/2u1835jnk1t

I will also be doing a livestream tonight at 9:00 PM Eastern Time on how to use the new features, which can be found here: www.livestream.com/flutterguy3…

And now a quick legal disclosure (only because I have to :p).  This software is provided as-is and without any warranty.  Misuse of this software or use of this software in an illegal nature is in no way the fault of the developer or the upstream Inkscape development team.  The developers are not responsible for any loss or damages that may occur while using the software.  This software is licensed under the GPL version 2.0, a copy of which will be provided upon request.

I hope you enjoy this release of Ponyscape and that it helps any pony vector artists out there!  From just using it for the past month, I can definitely say that my time to complete a vector has gone down dramatically thanks to the advancements both in the upstream Inkscape and in Ponyscape.

Sorry for asking, but does it make ponies?
